Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Marinette County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Marinette County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It stays within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Referring website, when one is reported
  • Pages viewed during the visit
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine those measurements into reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a submitted search to the selected outside provider
  • Diagnose errors and other technical problems
  • Maintain site availability and performance
  • Understand which pages are useful or need revision
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Marinette County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general access information for records held by the Marinette County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry. No visitor information is compiled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal record, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to data entered into those tools. Those practices are beyond this site's control, so review the provider's policy before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Marinette County government, Wisconsin agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics services measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks placing ads on site pages
  • Search providers processing a query submitted through their tool
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect collected data. No internet system can guarantee absolute security, however, and this site cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on where a visitor lives. Wisconsin's Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs access to records held by public authorities, while Wis. Stat. § 165.83 addresses DOJ criminal-information functions and dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law and available data, a visitor may:

  • Request deletion of personal data held by this site
  • Ask for correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Seek a copy of available personal data associated with the requester
  • Object to certain processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revision will be posted here with a new effective date, so visitors should review the current version periodically.

Effective date: August 11, 2026
